  • The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Toyo
The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Toyo

By Mr. Jose Luis Jimenez – Director of Food and Beverage

Toyo is one of the latest addition to the local dining scene, another off-the-beaten-track Makati eatery that is well worth hunting down. It may be named after a humble condiment (soy sauce, no less), but this bold flavour-pusher promises to raise the game for Filipino food, pushing the limits of local cuisine. Toyo calls themselves an “eatery” instead of a “restaurant” because the establishment wants to be known as a place to eat rather than a full-service restaurant. Its carefully thought-out menu dares to be inventive without losing sight of the traditional Filipino flavors. The modern and sleek eatery has a very inviting ambiance with an open kitchen and just the right mix of concrete and wood design.

Toyo is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 6 to 11:30 p.m.

The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites ABV

By Mr. Patrick Bahrens – Hotel Manager

Hard to find but once you do, it’s worth it. This speakeasy bar is reminiscent of New York City in the 1920s during the Prohibition Era with its vintage décor and ambiance. Be adventurous in your choice cocktail or ask the bartenders to make a special drink for your taste and personality.

    Open daily from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

  • The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Aphro
The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Aphro

By Ms. Jill de Villa – Director of Sales

If you love art, furniture and one-of-a-kind design, then you will love Aphro, a contemporary retail store that sells living art. Located at The Alley at Karrivin in Makat City, Aphro bridges established artists with the public, making their artworks more attainable. The design of the shop is reminiscent of the famous rice terraces and once you make your way to the top, you can take the fun option of sliding all the way back down.

Aphro is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11:15 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Holy Smokes
The Peninsula Manila Staff Favorites Holy Smokes

By Mr. Mariano Garchitorena - Director of Public Relations

If you are craving for good barbecue dishes, then this place is perfect for you. Tucked away in the sleepy street of Poblacion in Makati, Holy Smokes offers Texas-style smoked meats including fall-off-the bone ribs, succulent roast chicken, sausages and hearty sides. I would recommend trying the beef brisket, blue cheese slaw and chill con carne. It's self-service joint so waiting time is minimal.

Holy Smokes is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 5p.m. to 12 midnight and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2p.m. for lunch and 5p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner.
